Some treatment cannot happen over video. For injectable medications, for substance use and recovery support, for children and younger patients, and for patients whose insurance is Medicare or Medicaid, Dr. Riccio sees patients in person at Lawrence County Mental Health and Wellness in New Castle.

The people at New Castle

Three people you will deal with: the practice’s founder, the person you will see, and the person who actually makes your appointment happen.
Dr. Michael McMullen, DNP, FNP, PMHNP-BC

Dr. Michael McMullen

DNP, FNP, PMHNP-BC · Founder and Owner

Dr. Michael McMullen, DNP, FNP, PMHNP-BC, founded Lawrence County Mental Health and Wellness in 2016 and owns the practice. He is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with dual Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees in Adult Psychiatric-Mental Health and Family Practice from the University of Michigan-Flint.

He works in addiction medicine and integrated behavioral health, precepts graduate and post-graduate nurse practitioner students from universities across the country, and is the author of The Alcoholic’s Survival Guide.

Under his leadership the practice has been named Best of the Best in DNP and Psychiatry by the New Castle News Readers’ Choice Awards and ranked the number one mental health clinic in its region.

He is also one of my mentors. I am honored to work beside him.

Dr. Ellen M. Riccio

DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C · Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Dr. Ellen M. Riccio is double board-certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Walden University in August 2026, with a doctoral project on implementing structured safety planning in outpatient psychiatric care.

Most of her practice is by video, throughout Pennsylvania. This office is the other half of it: where she sees patients in person, in the same practice as Dr. McMullen rather than across a referral.

Before psychiatry she spent eighteen years in emergency medicine as a paramedic, flight nurse, and emergency nurse, and has years of experience with medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. She served as clinical reviewer for The Alcoholic’s Survival Guide.

Long-Acting Injectable Treatment

These medications are given in person on a set schedule, which is why they happen at the office rather than by video.
Sublocade
Monthly buprenorphine injection for opioid use disorder. One appointment a month instead of a daily film or tablet.
Vivitrol
Monthly naltrexone injection for alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder. No opioid in it, and nothing to take home.
Long-Acting Antipsychotic Injections
For patients whose treatment works better on a monthly or longer schedule than on daily pills.

If you are not sure which of these fits, start with a visit and we will work it out together.

All insurances accepted, including Medicare and Medicaid.

This is the main difference between the two. Telehealth visits run through a specific set of commercial plans. In-office visits at Lawrence County Mental Health and Wellness accept all insurance.

Call 724-856-3167 to confirm your plan before your first visit.
